THE OPPORTUNITY

As an intern on the sustainability team, you will support our efforts to achieve a reduction of waste to landfill and assess opportunities to support a circular economy. You will be responsible for working with a variety of internal departments and external partners including Operations, Facilities, Marketing, Supply Chain and various other departments to ensure strong collaboration as we work to expand and improve our sustainability efforts.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Provide analysis of the current adoption rates of various packaging materials
  • Assess the environmental impacts as a result of materials manufacturing
  • Support evaluation of impacts of the Extended Producer Responsibiliey regulations
  • Research circularity of various packaging materials
  • Create a summary of the state of the compostable market
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, industry partners and NGOs to assess opportunties to upcycle Chipotle waste streams opportunities
  • Assess benefits and claims of various packaging certifications
  • Support expansion of the database on materials used and origination of Chipotle’s direct packaging, and supplier packaging.
  • Support development of materials to communicate sustainability impact of waste management and reduction programs for crew and external parties.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Working on a Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from 4-year college in environmental sciences
  • Experience with research and process development
  • Familiar with materials, sustainability, climate and environmental issues (regulations, developing legislation, industry trends)
  • Demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Be committed to social/environmental sustainability and accountability, and improving the lives of people, animals, and the environment
  • Be self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to build successful working relationships by listening and communicating effectively

PAY TRANSPARENCY

Pay rate is $25 per hour, depending on skill level, experience, and/ oreducation. Compensation offered is also subject to local wage and hour laws.
