THE OPPORTUNITY

Perform as the subject matter expert on payroll optimizations, including tip allocation, apportionment, and payment throughout the organization. Serve as the business operational owner of the relationship with any third-party tip vendor and internal partners to ensure the accurate payment of tips to employees. Maintain the operational effectiveness of tip integrations with internal and external partners to test new system enhancements alongside system updates and changes. Lead payroll team case management to align with payroll leadership on correcting and answering tip related inquiries. Responsible for reporting and operational change management for retroactive payroll results and electronic pay initiatives. Establish strategy with payroll leadership for the payroll quality assurance program ensuring documentation, reporting, and compliance initiatives are executed. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

In addition to following Chipotle’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the payroll lead on development of integrations, data confirmation, managing business testing phases, and issue resolution for the tips program; advises partnering teams on best practices regarding payroll business processes and setup in our internal systems.
  • Oversees payroll and tip data to ensure payments files have accurate data in effective and clear formats for integrations into Workday. Make applicable adjustments within calculation tools to ensure all payment compliance metrics are executed.
  • Serve as the functional lead over our third-party tip calculation system by becoming the matter expert on administrative access, tip allocation updates, and integration feeds from Chipotle internal systems to follow up on data discrepancies and validation. 
  • Research, propose and implement changes that promote process efficiencies, support company initiatives, timely employee support and improve payroll & tip accuracy.
  • Responsible for facilitating, creating, and partnering with Training, ESC leadership, and Organizational Change Management in preparing and delivering payroll & tip compliance-related training; provide leadership on the communication and facilitation of this information to Ops.
  • Maintain compliance with all appropriate local, state, and federal tip regulations through partnership with Legal, People Experience and Ops Services. Provide legal research for all tip processes and ensure compliance requirements are met within our system configuration through partnership with the Legal department.
  • Provide functional leadership processes, procedures, and compliance administration within the payroll function.
  • Establish strategy and execution of all payroll quality assurance initiatives including, but not limited to, accurate payroll time entry, establishing expectations and reporting on change management for retro time entry, electronic pay initiatives, and any necessary processes impacting the tip pooling population.
  • Manage and produce all applicable tip reporting including, but not limited to, internal & external audits, store level reporting on tip payments, retro allocation impacts, executive reporting on total tip payouts, and payroll quality assurance reporting.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  • B.A./B.S. in related field or an equivalent in education and experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in multi-state high volume payroll department, shared services execution experience, and/or extensive accounting/legal experience.
  • CPP certification preferred
  • Experience working with Workday, Kronos, ADP or equivalent preferred.
